Elementary: Today at 9:45 our recess staff heard sounds that caused our school to go into a secure hold. We were in the secure hold for 17 minutes until the police could clear the school and determine the cause of the sounds. It was identified that hunters outside of town were shooting their guns. No danger was found and the security was lifted.

We will be doing a competition to see which class can bring in the most items of food! The winning class will be announced on December 7th. Some examples of accepted food items are: canned food, ramen noodles, instant potatoes, mac n cheese, boxes of cereal, and more.  Please come join us for the kick off of the Bulldog Walking Club. We encourage you to come walk with your student during his/her recess time. Students will have the opportunity to walk during recess throughout the year to earn awards. We hope this helps students feel there are more options for activity at recess, allowing them to stay active. This program is for 2nd grade through 5th grade. Please check into the office before coming out to the playground. Recess Times: Lunch Recess—3rd 11:10-11:30, 4th 11:40-12:00, 2nd/5th 12:05-12:25 Regular Recess – 3rd/5th 1:50-2:05, 2nd 2:05-2:20, 4th 2:20-2:35  Our school got a new math curriculum this year and needs time for adjustments to happen. The new curriculum, Reveal Math, is rigorous. Our teachers are doing an amazing job of helping to support your child. As a parent you may have noticed math a bit more challenging. We will be continuing to add supports and enrichment to the math curriculum. Elementary: Our school had a lockdown drill and a fire drill today. Both of these were drills and for our students and staff to practice what we would do in a real emergency. Again this was a drill. Elementary: (English) Due to circumstances beyond our control, Nyssa Elementary will be having students musically perform at our Veterans Day Assembly, Nov. 9 and in a Spring Concert (date and time yet to be determined) for parents and the community. There will not be a Winter Concert prior to Christmas. The music department knows how much the kids love to perform for their parents, but the preparation timing is not conducive this year. Students and parents gathered at the Nyssa Migrant Preschool classroom to learn about and participate in activities designed to increase students' mathematical awareness. Migrant School Readiness Specialist Tere Ley conducted the event along with classroom teachers Rosalie Marvin and Diana Monroy.
