5th Grade Announcement -- Dedication Spot Orders are due by January 16th! Please get your orders in before that day. You can purchase those online through the following link: buytheyearbook.com You can also purchase the yearbooks online at the same time. Thank you, Yearbook Club

The Eighth Annual Malheur County Spelling Bee will be on March 14th. The spelling lists were shared with teachers and those lists are available to students now. If your child would like a printed list you can request one from your child’s teacher, or the lists are attached to the email with this newsletter. Good luck everyone and we cannot wait to see all our Nyssa Students do an amazing job at the spelling bee!
The Character Trait for January is EMPATHY!

El octavo concurso anual de ortografía del condado de Malheur se llevará a cabo el 14 de marzo. State Exclusion Day is coming up. Make sure your student is up to date on their vaccinations and avoid them being excluded from school.

¡Hola familias de quinto grado! A medida que entramos en 2024, ¡es hora de comenzar a planificar nuestro viaje de quinto grado a la costa de Oregón! El viaje se llevará a cabo del 10 al 12 de abril de 2024. Tendremos nuestra primera reunión familiar el miércoles 24 de enero de 5 a 6 p. m. en Mac Hall. En esta reunión repasamos la logística del viaje, las listas de equipaje y la lotería de acompañantes. Por favor esperen y traigan sus preguntas a esta reunión. ¡Te veo allí!
Elementary -- 5th Grade Only
Hello 5th Grade Families! As we enter 2024, it is time to begin planning for our 5th Grade Trip to the Oregon Coast! The trip will take place April 10-12, 2024. We will have our first family meeting on Wednesday, January 24 from 5 - 6 PM in Mac Hall. We will go over trip logistics, packing lists, and chaperone lottery at this meeting. Please hold onto and bring your questions to this meeting. See you there!

So that parents and families can attend the Christmas Concert for the Middle School and High School Band and Choir concert tonight, the Bullpup Talks with the Principals for the Elementary will be cancelled. Our next meeting will be in January.

The Elementary had to call the ambulance to come and check on a student who was not feeling well. As a precaution the student was transported to the hospital.

Today at 12:16 pm we had two drills. Our first drill was a Shelter (Earthquake) Drill and then we had our Fire Drill. These were just drills we did for students and staff to practice what is needed if a true emergency happened.

Elementary:
Today at 9:45 our recess staff heard sounds that caused our school to go into a secure hold. We were in the secure hold for 17 minutes until the police could clear the school and determine the cause of the sounds. It was identified that hunters outside of town were shooting their guns. No danger was found and the security was lifted.
